For information only - not an official warning

winterstormwarning.com shows winter weather alerts published by the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS). This site is not part of the National Weather Service, NOAA or any government agency, and it is not an official source of warnings.

  • Alerts are checked against the NWS every hour, so a new or changed alert can appear here up to an hour late - or not at all if the weather service or our site has a problem.
  • We rewrite the forecasters' text into plain words and add maps, town lists and forecasts. These can contain mistakes. When in doubt, the original alert on weather.gov is what counts.
  • Snow amounts, timing and "when to drive" suggestions are forecasts. Weather can change quickly and can differ from town to town.
  • Maps are simplified and are not suitable for navigation.

In an emergency

Follow the instructions of local officials. For official alerts go to weather.gov, listen to NOAA Weather Radio, and keep emergency alerts turned on on your phone. In a life-threatening emergency in the United States, call 911.
